Job Overview

The Senior Legal Counsel plays a pivotal role in managing legal affairs and mitigating organisational risk.

This strategic position reports to the General Counsel, providing expert support and guidance to the business on critical matters.

Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and approving contractual agreements, as well as offering advice on complex legal and regulatory issues.

Additionally, this role involves collaborating with stakeholders to develop policies, procedures, and training programs for staff on relevant legal matters.

Strong analytical and negotiating skills, with experience in crafting content to address evolving areas of law, are essential for success in this role.

A proven track record in managing legal activities, interpreting and negotiating contracts, and formulating commercial solutions is also required.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, interpersonal capability, and sound commercial judgement.

They must be confident, reliable, and mature in attitude, able to work independently and effectively with a range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic legal advice on key organisational issues, including Charitable Fundraising Legislation and Privacy Law.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of legal process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the oversight of the team's Legal Counsel, as well as volunteer interns, ensuring effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in law and current practicing certificate.
  • 8+ years of experience in a legal role, including in-house experience.
  • Excellent analytical and negotiating skills, with experience in crafting content to address evolving areas of law.
  • Proven track record in managing legal activities, interpreting and negotiating contracts.
  • Sound commercial judgement and experience, including ability to formulate and communicate commercial solutions.
  • Confident, reliable, and mature in attitude, who can work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
