About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and culturally sensitive Indigenous Family Liaison Officer to join our team at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. As an ILO, you will play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families throughout the Court process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander litigants, including explaining Court procedures and their obligations.
  • Connect litigants to community support and legal services, where appropriate.
  • Support litigants through the Court pathway, from filing documents to Court events.
  • Educate the community about the ILO role and the objectives of the Courts.
  • Build relationships with judges and other Court officers to explain the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Build and maintain external networks with local communities and support agencies.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have good listening skills, be able to use everyday language to explain formal processes, and be empathetic towards others who are experiencing a challenging and potentially distressing moment in their lives. You will also need to have good links with local communities and be prepared to build on those links.
