HOBAN Recruitment is seeking an experienced Assistant Director Finance to lead complex financial management and budget activities for a government agency in Sydney.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial planning and budgeting strategies to support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including the Department of Finance, to ensure effective budget management.
  • Oversee the planning, preparation, and execution of budget and financial reporting activities.
  • Partner with internal teams to provide general accounting and strategic financial advice.
  • Coordinate monthly General Ledger close and reporting procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage fixed assets register and oversee financial compliance of property lease contracts.
  • Develop and present written financial and business materials, including briefs and reports.

About You:

  • Strong leadership skills to oversee finance teams and processes.
  • Proven experience in financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively under broad direction and handle complex work tasks.
  • Experience liaising with key stakeholders, including auditors and business partners.
  • Qualifications in accounting or finance, with membership of CA/CPA or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Experience in financial reporting, audit processes, and government budget cycles.
  • Knowledge of the Central Budget Management System (CBMS) and end-to-end asset management.
