Job Summary

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring the quality of analytical testing, and maintaining instrument calibrations and quality control systems. The ideal candidate will have strong managerial and leadership skills, with experience in a petroleum laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the quality system.
  • Review and oversee quality control data on a routine basis.
  • Prepare corrective and preventative action reports for laboratory-related matters.
  • Investigate and implement corrective actions for non-conformances.
  • Ensure technically correct analysis on a daily basis.
  • Address technical issues and confer with the Laboratory Director as needed.
  • Coordinate and schedule laboratory assignments for personnel.
  • Perform analysis and receive, compile, and verify data from laboratory testing.
  • Document and maintain accurate records for client quality control samples.
  • Compile quality control sample results to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Explain specifications, methods, and results to internal and external clients.
  • Provide training to laboratory personnel.
  • Liaise between laboratory personnel and the Laboratory Director and Operations.
  • Manage laboratory equipment and supply inventory.
  • Coordinate equipment replacement or repair.
  • Understand instrument calibrations and verifications, and maintain records as needed.

Requirements

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • One of the following education and/or experience levels must be met:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline and 2 years of experience in a petroleum laboratory.
  • Associate's Degree in a technical discipline and 3 years of experience in a petroleum laboratory.
  • 5 years of experience in a petroleum laboratory.
  • Demonstrate strong managerial, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, outside consultants, and management.
  • Petroleum laboratory experience must include analytical testing, instrument maintenance, calibrations, quality control systems, and training protocols.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of industry-related safety and training.
  • Demonstrate the ability to grasp new procedures quickly and implement them.
