Job Overview

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operational Laboratory Manager to join its team. As a key member of the production laboratory, you will be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the laboratory, including management of lab staff, oversight of laboratory processes, and alignment of processes to organisational goals.

About You

We are looking for an individual with at least 5 years of experience in a research or production laboratory, preferably with expertise in process improvement or experimental design. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment, possess strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills, and have proven ability to cost and budget a process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage select laboratory staff – including recruitment, training programs, project allocation and performance reviews.
  • Oversee the operation and administration of the laboratory to ensure service quality is maintained.
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures are current and reflective of the work performed, with appropriate change control implemented where necessary.
  • Ensure that results of work undertaken within the laboratory are accurately recorded, reviewed and reported.
  • Manage and control stock, equipment and services to the laboratory – including purchasing, repair and maintenance.
  • Communicate, ensure and review the performance and improvement of the laboratory by monitoring key indicators – including turnaround time, quality metrics and client interactions.

Salary Information

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately AU$96,500 per annum, plus 11.5% superannuation and salary packaging options.
