Research Assistant – Centre for Dynamic Imaging

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to provide technical support to research staff and students in advanced microscopy and in methods and technologies for undertaking spatial omics research.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of postdoctoral scientists to optimise antibody panels and to acquire data using various approaches. They will be well organised, have meticulous attention to detail, be able to keep detailed records of experimental protocols and capable of coordinating data management and the downstream analysis of data.
The Research Assistant is expected to:
- Provide a continuous and reliable service, such as assistance and training in sample preparation and imaging.
- Assist staff and students to optimise immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining and to undertake image capture.
- Provide support to postdoctoral scientists to perform experiments and to generate spatial-omics data.
- Assist in the evaluation and optimisation of new methods within the laboratory.
- Have experience or knowledge in the operation of laser scanning confocals, fluorescence slide scanners, spatial omics technologies or other advanced imaging equipment.
- Be highly organised and have meticulous attention to detail.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation for routine operations within the facility.
- Help coordinate and manage the completion of projects.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- A Bachelor of Science with Honours or Masters in Biology or similar area of study.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and a high level of motivation in achieving research outcomes.
- Knowledge of and experience undertaking immunohistochemical or immunofluorescence assays.
- Knowledge of advanced instrumentation for slide scanning or for microscopy.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills with meticulous attention to detail in experimentation and genuine enthusiasm to contribute to teaching and scientific discoveries.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of scientific imaging techniques and an understanding of analysis methods.
- Experience in animal handling.
- Experience in tissue fixation and sectioning.
- Experience in confocal microscopy, spatial omics or other advanced microscopy techniques.
- Experience working in a medical research environment and in a class 2 containment laboratory.
Terms of Appointment:
This position is available for 2 years in a full-time capacity (Part-time may be considered). Salary is Research Support Employee (RSE) Level 5-6 ($79,629-$99,979). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
