We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our dynamic team at the Brain Cancer Centre, part of the Immunology Division at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Jenkins Laboratory, responsible for facilitating the day-to-day operations of the lab, including administration, database management, project management, and assisting in the planning and execution of research projects.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative environment and gain experience in groundbreaking cancer research, with a focus on developing novel chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapies.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning and execution of research projects, ensuring reagents are titrated and aliquoted.
- Manage laboratory databases and maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.
- Contribute to ongoing research projects, including CAR T cell therapy and other novel therapeutic approaches for brain cancer.
- Work independently and as part of a team to achieve research goals.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of scientific integrity and compliance with safety and ethical standards.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology).
- Previous laboratory experience in a research setting, including primary cell work and general cell biology.
- Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, flow cytometry, tissue culture).
- Strong organisational and time management skills, and excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
This is a full-time position for 2 years, with a salary of Research Support Employee Level 5 - 6. Up to 17% superannuation and attractive salary packaging options are available.
Applicants must have unrestricted working rights. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
