Job Summary

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide legal guidance and support to the Bank's business units, senior leaders, and executives on a broad variety of legal matters. The role involves partnering closely with the business as a trusted advisor to drive strategic initiatives in a fast-paced and regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the business as a trusted advisor to support strategic objectives in a dynamic and regulated landscape
  • Assist with overall legal needs for major projects and transactions, including regulatory changes and risk management responses
  • Provide expert legal advice to the Bank's business units, senior leaders, and executives
  • Collaborate with the Head of Group Legal and other stakeholders to enhance ongoing compliance and risk management

Requirements

  • A legal qualification and admission to practice law in Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within Banking and Financial Services (private practice or in-house)
  • Strong relationship-building skills to establish trust with senior executives and business partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation and to develop and implement policy and risk management strategies considering regulatory changes
