Job Opportunity

The Legal Advisor position at SA Water involves providing expert legal guidance across the business, ensuring compliance with administrative law and statutory interpretation.

You will advise on contracts, governance, and dispute resolution while supporting leaders to make informed decisions and fostering a culture of accountability.

This is a hands-on role where your expertise will help shape how SA Water manages legal risk and delivers services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and drafting services to internal stakeholders and instruct external legal service providers when required.
  • Contribute to building awareness and understanding amongst staff of key legal and commercial issues and their application to the business.
  • Provide advice on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation.
  • Support the broader corporate services team by providing high-level advice and support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and advise on legal contracts, including alignment to procurement framework, policies, risk position, and business needs.
Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in law/legal practice.
  • Admission to practice law in South Australia and a current unrestricted practising certificate.
  • Must have undertaken approved training to become an Accredited FOI Officer.
  • Highly developed communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing, advising, drafting, and negotiating contracts.
  • Experience providing in-house legal and/or advice to government departments or agencies.
  • Experience and ability in reviewing complex information to arrive at reasoned and defensible conclusions.
  • Experience in dealing diplomatically but assertively with members of the public, senior personnel, and colleagues.
