Senior Legal Advisor Position

This is a high-profile position that involves providing strategic advice to DHUD on legal, policy and legislative reform issues.
- Provide expert advice and support on legal and policy matters associated with the performance of the Department's functions and the administration of the Department's legislative portfolio.
- Identify complex legal issues and risks and prepare instructions to obtain specialist legal advice from external advisors as required.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including public sector leaders.
- Assist with the development and review of legal policies, procedures and templates and deliver internal training on legal and policy matters.
Key Requirements:
- A strong track record of identifying and assessing complex legal issues under limited supervision and direction.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and guidelines to complex situations and formulate practical solutions and recommendations.
- High levels of initiative and judgement in providing advice to government agencies on legal issues and risk mitigation, consulting with senior staff when necessary.
- Prioritizing competing workloads and working to tight deadlines while demonstrating sound judgement and reliability.
- Minimum 3 years post-admission legal experience.
