Family Engagement Specialist
Introduction
We are seeking an experienced Family Engagement Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a culturally strong service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, reducing the disproportionate representation of children in the child protection system.
The role requires providing independent support to families when child protection concerns are reported, with the goal of securing the safety of the children and family participation in decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide facilitation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family-led decision making.
- Enable families to participate in decisions about them and their children.
- Facilitate early involvement in the child protection continuum.
- Support self-determination and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.
- Assist families to understand the child protection process and safety concerns.
- Provide support to enable active input in decisions.
- Conduct planning to identify family members who can support resolution of safety concerns or maintain cultural and family connections.
- Facilitate family planning sessions in preparation for decision-making meetings.
- Facilitate formal family-led decision-making processes ensuring all participants contribute to the family plan.
- Link families with support services needed to implement and sustain the family plan.
- Cultivate effective working relationships across levels, promoting collaboration, trust, and respect.
Requirements
- Current degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Intervention or Criminology with 2 years' relevant experience.
- OR Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Family, Allied Health, Youth Work, Child and Family Intervention with 3 years' relevant experience.
- AND At least 1 year of abovementioned experience in a case management role.
- Demonstrated ability working in a performance-driven environment to meet targets.
- Ability to build client agency and facilitate change through empowerment.
- Knowledge and ability to provide brief interventions for client self-awareness and change.
- Ability to work with whole-of-family needs.
- Ability to coordinate multiple services for holistic care.
- Knowledge of factors contributing to vulnerability, disengagement, and intergenerational trauma.
- Experience with high-risk clients and crisis management.
- Knowledge of available supports for target groups.
Additional Requirements
- Requirement to travel across Brisbane and surrounding suburbs.
