About the Position

This permanent full-time Child and Family Practitioner role is designed to provide skilled casework support and supervision to children and young people in a family-based care arrangement. The position also involves outreach style support to young people in the community.

The purpose of this role is to work in partnership with foster carers, children, government agencies, and stakeholders to develop and implement individualised care plans that meet the required 'standards of care' for the protection and well-being of children and young people.

This role is based at our Hobart office and comes with a Tool of Trade vehicle (including fuel card) for personal use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Casework practice in partnership with relevant government agencies, children, families, carers, and other stakeholders.
  • In a CARE-informed way, work with carers to understand the impact of trauma, loss, neglect, and abuse on children or young people.
  • Apply the CARE model in day-to-day care to enable children to learn trust, life skills, relationships, and resilience.
  • Build and strengthen carer skills in decision-making and supporting children to reach their potential.
  • Perform case management functions as prescribed in specific contracts or funding agreements where necessary.
  • Negotiate between our organisation and government agencies to ensure each child receives stable care meeting their needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Recognised Social Work qualifications with eligibility for membership of the AASW and/or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification.
  • Significant experience in the child protection and out-of-home care sector.
  • Demonstrated experience working from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective with individuals, families, and communities in the out-of-home care sector.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying an individual's strengths and areas for improvement within foster care, with an emphasis on permanency for children in care.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Current unrestricted driver's license.
