Policy Advisor Role

Work with our team to deliver priority projects across a range of portfolios, including jobs, skills, economic growth, industry and innovation, regional development, sport, tourism, major events and the creative industries.

As a Policy Advisor, you will be part of a high-performing team that operates like an internal management consulting firm to support joined-up strategy and policy-development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participate in specialist project teams established to address priority issues across portfolios.
  • Analyse data, collate evidence and support stakeholder engagement to diagnose problems, formulate findings and recommendations on public policy issues.
  • Produce concise reports, briefs and submissions to facilitate effective decision-making.

The position is based within the Priority Projects Unit, which supports the Department's policy and strategy development. The unit brings together advanced capabilities in economics and public policy, data and modelling, program design and evaluation, project management, delivery and assurance.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, including problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience working in complex environments as a member of a project team.
  • A sound understanding of public policy and government processes.

This is a fixed-term position until 15 January 2026, offering full-time work with flexibility available. Usual work location is at 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne with some flexibility possible.
