About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Database Reliability Specialist to join our team at Xero. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and scalability of our cloud data platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with product teams to provide technical guidance and input on architectural decisions
  • Apply your expertise to understand and address challenges faced by internal customers, ensuring their products are optimized for scale and reliability
  • Resolve issues through triage and problem-solving, quickly identifying root causes and communicating impact to stakeholders
  • Participate in incident response and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging database technologies and methodologies
  • Deliver infrastructure in a production environment, ensuring systems run as expected and proactively preventing customer-facing problems
  • Practice agile ceremonies and facilitate team processes to improve efficiency
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience with highly-available cloud data platforms, ideally AWS, with a focus on relational databases (SQL Server, Postgres)
  • Experience using logging and monitoring solutions (DPA, New Relic, Sumo Logic)
  • Self-driven, pragmatic, and able to solve hard scalability problems
  • Strong ownership ethic, ability to ask questions, and identify efficiencies and innovations
  • Curious by nature, able to communicate at various technical and non-technical levels
  • Experience with database schema deployment tools/products/mechanisms
  • Able to participate in an on-call roster and share learnings through presentations, documentation, and team updates
