Safety Risk Management Specialist

The role of a Safety Management System Advisor is crucial in developing and maintaining a robust safety management system. This position requires strong knowledge of risk management principles, working knowledge of legal and systems compliance requirements, and effective leadership and communication skills.
The Safety Management System Advisor will develop SMS documentation, ensure system governance, and promote a "Safely Always" culture through their expertise. They will support the delivery of corporate Safety Improvement Plans by guiding and coordinating safety activities across teams and operations.
This involves leading the development and review of corporate SMS documentation through consultation with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining existing standards, procedures, guidelines, and forms in line with best practice and legislation, and developing and implementing training initiatives or programs to promote OHS.
The Safety Management System Advisor will also implement, manage, and coordinate safety culture initiatives such as the Pulse Safety Survey, provide corporate governance through assurance activities (audits and inspections) across all elements of the SMS, undertake quality assessments and reviews of investigations for corporate reviews monthly and annually in accordance with the SMS, and provide advice to the coordinator and provider of the Metro Drug and Alcohol Program and ensure reporting requirements are met.
About You:
- You have a strong background in health, safety, risk management, or business management, with qualifications such as a Lead Investigator (ICAM), Internal Auditor ISO9001:2008, and Tertiary qualification in Health, Safety, Risk Management or Business Management or equivalent experience.
- You have advanced working knowledge of safety (OH&S) management systems, including Occupational Health & Safety Act (2004), Regulations, Compliance Codes, and Australian Standards, Rail Safety National Law Act 2012 and Rail Safety National Law Regulations 2012, Dangerous Goods Act (1985).
- You possess a Certificate IV in Training & Development, desirable experience in quality management or technical writing, and knowledge of Emergency Management Act (1992).
