Job Title: Enterprise Data Protection Specialist

The client is a major Federal Government department with one of the largest server environments in Australia. Their systems support critical national infrastructure, and they are looking for an experienced data protection specialist to take ownership of enterprise-grade backup services across a high-availability environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the configuration, optimisation, and day-to-day operations of backup and recovery services
  • Design and refine policies, test DR readiness, troubleshoot incidents, and work closely with infrastructure and storage teams to keep systems resilient and recoverable
  • Own the configuration, scheduling, and performance of backup tools
  • Develop and execute DR plans
  • Optimise storage use with deduplication, compression, and other best practices
  • Act as the escalation point for complex incidents
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure licensing compliance
  • Provide clear documentation for audit and compliance needs

Requirements:

  • Australian Citizen with active NV1 security clearance
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise backup environments
  • Strong skills with tools like Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, or Commvault
  • Proven track record with DR planning, testing, and execution

Desirable Skills:

  • Backup and recovery across physical, virtual, and cloud (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with backup storage tech: tape, SAN, NAS, cloud
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Familiarity with SQL, Oracle, VMware, Hyper-V backup processes
