Job Title: Community AOD Prevention Specialist
The role of the Community AOD Prevention Specialist is to work with a wide range of government and non-government agencies, professionals, and community groups to progress community action on alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention initiatives.
Job Description
As a Community AOD Prevention Specialist, you will take a lead role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce and prevent AOD related harms at a local and regional level.
You will maintain accurate and timely records of AOD prevention activities for reporting internally and to community stakeholders and funders. This includes developing and maintaining partnerships with government and non-government service providers and community groups to identify local needs and ensure referral pathways.
Key responsibilities include coordinating the regional response to Volatile Substance Use in line with MHC protocols for reporting and responding, working with the Prevention Coordinator and PR Manager to develop educational and promotional strategies, campaigns, and publications for AOD prevention activities, and researching and preparing submissions and reports relating to AOD prevention programs and projects.

- Experience in or demonstrated ability to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate alcohol and other drug prevention initiatives
- High level of written communication skills, including report writing
- High level of interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including negotiation skills and the ability to liaise with people in a variety of contexts
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to professionals and community groups
- Knowledge of the impacts of drugs and alcohol on individuals, families, and communities
- An understanding of and adherence to working within personal and professional boundaries
- Excellent administrative and computer skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Confidence in managing difficult situations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
