A Key Role in Democracy

You will join the team that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to participate in democracy through community engagement, enrolment to vote, and voting during electoral events.

This role is responsible for engaging with partners to realise benefits for Indigenous Australians. You will represent the AEC's views in various forums, travel to remote localities, and collaborate internally and externally.

To succeed, you will need:

  • Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including adapting messages for various audiences.
  • Organisational skills, with attention to detail and delivering results.
  • Problem-solving ability and commitment to working harmoniously within a team.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Australian citizenship.
  • No active involvement in political affairs or intention to carry on this activity publicly.
  • Willingness to undergo character and security clearance.
