Job Title: Nursing Professional Development Expert

The role of the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is multifaceted, encompassing that of a facilitator, agent of change, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, and advocate for NPD specialty.

This position requires an individual who can effectively guide learners towards desired outcomes through continuous learning and growth opportunities. The focus will be on training programs, supported by departmental teaching of SIM and didactic classes.

The successful candidate will utilize environmental scanning to assess opportunities and challenges within and externally to the organization, identifying areas for growth based on global and national healthcare trends, legislative changes, needs of collaborative partners, educational gaps, emerging technologies, and staff members' desire for growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Orientation Coordination: Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the nursing unit or department.
  • Monitors and reports compliance with required documentation for orientation.
  • Evaluates the unit or department orientation process based on health care trends, learning needs, and organizational goals.

Additionally, this role involves serving as a resource for clinical inquiry, demonstrating a spirit of inquiry to support professional curiosity, working collaboratively to identify problems and solutions, creating a supportive environment for research and quality improvement initiatives, and disseminating evidence-based practice findings.

Furthermore, the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner may assist others in their professional role development, practice transitions, and succession planning, providing resources for role transition and promoting certification and advanced formal education.

This role requires designing engaging, interactive, state-of-the-art educational activities rooted in adult learning principles; implementing and coordinating activities related to clinical practice and lifelong career development.
