LGBTQIA+ Support Worker

Job Summary:

This role involves the application of specialised knowledge, skills, and professional judgement to carry out key functions relevant to LGBTQIA+ support.

The LGBTQIA+ Support Worker provides crisis accommodation support, housing information, and referral assistance to individuals, couples, and families from the LGBTQIA+ community who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Working with a diverse range of clients who have varying support needs and life experiences, this role entails conducting comprehensive assessments, providing tailored information, and facilitating referrals to suitable internal and external services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out comprehensive assessments to identify client needs and requirements;
  • Providing tailored information and support to clients regarding available services and resources;
  • Facilitating referrals to suitable internal and external services to meet client needs;
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and partner organisations;
  • Participating in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in LGBTQIA+ support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field;
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in social work or related field;
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse client groups, including those from the LGBTQIA+ community;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of local services and resources available to support clients.
