Candidate Profile

We are in search of a remarkable agricultural commodity strategist who possesses a deep enthusiasm for fundamental research and data analytics.

With a proven track record of generating and executing strategic market insights, you should have extensive knowledge in one or more sectors of the global agricultural commodity landscape, including grains, oilseeds, soft commodities, and/or livestock.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a physical trading environment, a sell-side institution, or a hedge fund, serving as a fundamentally focused strategist, adept at forecasting intricate global supply and demand scenarios and offering strategic advice on investment choices.

The Agricultural Commodity Strategist will oversee a team of analysts and collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers to develop, investigate, and execute investment strategies. Exceptional strategists may eventually progress to senior leadership positions within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and direct the fundamental research initiatives at Farrer Capital Management
  • Lead the creation of comprehensive fundamental commodity supply and demand models
  • Guide the enhancement and development of analytical tools and processes while remaining informed about market research and insights
  • Supervise the modeling of commodity data for specific markets and conduct ad hoc analyses based on immediate market developments
  • Ensure the highest standards of data quality and continuously assess and enhance data integrity
Qualifications
About You
  • Prior experience in commodities producing innovative research that supports investment decisions
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, or economics
  • High academic achievement (GPA >3.8) / 1st Class Honors degree
  • Strong proficiency in financial modeling, particularly using Python and/or VBA, Matlab
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and excel in a fast-paced team environment
  • A desire to work in a setting that values excellence
