About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Cultural Capability and Inclusion Project Officer to lead our cultural safety initiatives within our Medicare Mental Health Centre in Ipswich.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a culturally sensitive framework to align services with the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all patients.
  • Mentor and guide staff to enhance their cultural competence, fostering a collaborative work environment that values diversity and promotes reconciliation.
  • Implement culturally safe policies that reflect the values and needs of Indigenous communities, promoting cross-cultural understanding and respect.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve consumer wellbeing, addressing social determinants of health and promoting community-led solutions.
  • Identify challenges and provide actionable recommendations to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, while collaborating on programs promoting cultural diversity and inclusion.
About You
  • You bring substantial experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health settings, with a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, communities, and practices.
  • You possess excellent communication and partnership management skills, with the ability to mentor and coach teams to build cultural competence.
  • Experience with mental health services and community engagement will be highly valued, as will qualifications in health or social sciences and relevant registrations or certifications.
