This is designated as an Indigenous Identified role. Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island person.
To allow the selection panel to confirm that you are eligible to be considered for this First Nations Identified role, the panel may either:
- accept your written assertion that you are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
- applicants must also nominate (or provide written reference from) an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to their knowledge, skills, or experience to demonstrate cultural capabilities as required. This person may be a community member, supervisor, or work colleague.
**As Indigenous Service Support Officer, you will specifically**:
- Assist and support youth justice staff and relevant community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, and contemporary best practice.
- Implement culturally appropriate individualised case plans through designing and implementing intervention strategies, negotiating with service providers, and linking clients to the services/supports they require (including formal and informal services, government, and non-government agencies).
- Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case notes and records, preparation of reports and performance reporting.
- Participate productively and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework outcomes.
