About the Role

The NSW Department of Communities and Justice is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Officer to join our team in a secure residential unit. As a Youth Officer, you will play a critical role in supervising and supporting young people in custody, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support young people in custody, promoting a safe and secure environment
  • Respond to challenging situations and maintain a calm and composed demeanor
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement programs to support young people's rehabilitation and reintegration into society
  • Conduct regular checks and monitoring to ensure the well-being and safety of young people
  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Contribute to a positive and respectful team culture, promoting a culture of inclusivity and diversity

Requirements

  • Meet citizenship or residency requirements
  • Possession of a minimum Provisional 2 NSW driver's licence
  • National Background Police Check
  • NSW Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Possession or willingness to obtain the 'Provide First Aid Certificate' (HLTAID003)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Medical and Fitness Assessment to determine fitness for duty
