Research Scientist - Ophthalmology Job Opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our team at the Save Sight Institute. This exciting opportunity will enable you to contribute to cutting-edge research projects focused on glaucoma, aging, and mitochondrial turnover.

  • This role will involve working closely with our team leader, researchers, and key stakeholders to achieve project aims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct quantitative research including literature reviews, study protocols, and related documentation.
  • Assist in all activities related to research conduct, data coordination, and administrative requirements.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external collaborators.

Requirements:

  • Completed or near completion of a PhD in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and contributing to research evidence by producing original high-quality research.
  • Strong interest in optic nerve protection.
  • Previous experience in retinal primary cell culture.
  • Expertise in molecular analysis of retinal and optic nerve tissue.

Benefits:

  • Full-time 2-year fixed-term role with possible extension.
  • Base Salary $105,314 - $122,000 per annum.

The Save Sight Institute is a Centre of The University of Sydney, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. It was established in 1985 and has grown to be one of the top three ophthalmic research institutes in Australia, internationally recognised as a centre of innovative research into ophthalmology and as a centre of excellence for clinical research, learning, and teaching.

Ophthalmology is a highly specialised area of clinical medicine and science, and the Save Sight Institute has gathered a critical mass of clinicians, researchers, equipment, and technology that is unique within the University of Sydney.

The successful candidate will focus on a project related to glaucoma, aging, and mitochondrial turnover, including lifestyle interventions to protect the optic nerve in rodent models.
