Postdoctoral Researcher in Neurodegeneration

The University of Sydney is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to the exciting research on neurodegeneration. Our laboratory focuses on understanding how metabolic dysfunction and ageing contribute to optic nerve degeneration. We are committed to developing life-changing treatments for glaucoma and other optic nerve diseases that cause irreversible blindness.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct original research in NAD biology and axon degeneration, with a focus on drug discovery and optic nerve diseases. The role involves leading projects independently and as part of a team, collaborating with teams across the Snow Vision Accelerator, and disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct original research in NAD biology and axon degeneration, with a focus on drug discovery and optic nerve diseases
  • Lead projects independently and as part of a team

  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
Requirements:
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Vision Sciences, or a related field
  • Experience working with iPSC-derived neuronal cultures and primary neurons
  • Experience with mouse models of neurodegeneration
  • Expertise in axon degeneration and NAD biology
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Proven record of producing original, high-quality research that has resulted in peer-reviewed academic publications
