Locomotive Driver Role

At our operation in the Hunter Valley, we require a Casual Qualified Locomotive Driver to join our team at the Muswellbrook depot.

The core purpose of this role is to operate locomotives and provide operational support ensuring safe and efficient working of freight trains.

  • Operate locomotives in a safe and efficient manner
  • Carry out shunting at yards, depots, and sidings, conducting brake and continuity tests on trains
  • Prepare, stabilize, turn, and assemble locomotives
  • Conduct roll-by inspections
  • Correct minor on-road faults, diagnose major issues, and liaise with specialist staff for assistance
  • Operate communications equipment and prepare documentation associated with train operations
  • Drive motor vehicles

About You

This role offers a unique opportunity to work with highly technologically advanced locomotives and rollingstock, contributing to the ongoing success of the operation.

As a Casual Qualified Locomotive Driver, you will be part of the train crew servicing the Hunter Valley coal operations.

This is a 24/7 operation requiring flexibility in shift allocation across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Train Driving
  • Basic knowledge of railway environment safe-working procedures
  • Strong commitment to safety rules and operating safely
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • High level of concentration
  • Qualification in Train Orders (desirable)
