
Indigenous Youth Advocate Leader

At the Department of Justice and Community Safety, we are committed to making a positive impact on our community.
We are seeking a Team Manager for our Aboriginal Liaison Officer team who will play a key role in supporting young Indigenous people in custody.
The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
They will be able to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community, paying attention to words, expression and body language, and recognising behaviours that promote a culture of inclusion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Effectively leading and managing a team of Aboriginal Liaison Officers
- Providing team leadership, mentoring, structured learning, professional development, coaching and performance management
- Advocating for young Aboriginal people in custody, engaging and involving their family members and community in case work and planning
- Providing secondary consultation to staff to assist them to appropriately respond to the needs of young Aboriginal people
The department is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and recognises that children's rights need to be respected, their views welcomed and valued, and their concerns taken seriously and acted upon.
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
The successful candidate will also require a current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card and a full driver's license.
