Plant Manager Position Summary

This role reports to the Director of Manufacturing and works closely with other Plant Managers to implement the strategic plan and standard operating practices. The primary focus is directing daily operations, including manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and inventory management.

The job requires developing and applying good manufacturing principles, emphasizing lean manufacturing processes to minimize costs through effective utilization of labor, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.

This position must assure attainment of programs and production schedules while ensuring high-quality standards and a safe working environment.

Investigate and implement timely corrective action and innovative manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve product quality.

Timely and accurate communication is critical to this role with daily interactions with the Director of Operations, Sales, Logistics, Technical Services, Human Resources, and other managers within the corporation.

  1. Assist the Director of Operations in creating and implementing a strategic vision to increase production, quality, and labor utilization across the facility.
  2. Provide leadership to ensure that plant personnel and equipment are used effectively.
  3. Requires a high level of detail orientation and rapid response, especially with communication of status of jobs, quality, scheduling, shipping, and customer satisfaction.
  4. Take on plant-wide responsibility for all processes, equipment, employees' safety, and housekeeping to meet plant performance goals related to safety, waste, quality, and productivity.
  5. Create and follow documentation protocols and ensure that all operations records are properly maintained and reviewed.
  6. Manage department/shift personnel by fostering a culture of employee engagement through empowerment and skill development, setting expectations, providing guidance, maintaining individual accountability, coaching, training on both technical and soft skills, conducting performance appraisals, rewarding, and disciplining as appropriate.
  7. Plan, organize, direct, and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed internal and external customers' expectations.
  8. Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
  9. Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus.
  10. Recruit, train, and supervise employees.
  11. Review and improve products and processes.
  12. Create and implement organizational or departmental goals, procedures, and policies.
  13. Monitor operations and generate effective corrective actions.
  14. Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage, and develop plant staff.
  15. Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime.
  16. Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  17. Establish/maintain effective working relationships with management, internal functional organizations, customers, and suppliers.
  18. Ensure that established policies, rules, and regulations and procedures are followed.
  19. Maintain a positive attitude and display good work ethic by modeling appropriate behaviors.
  20. Drive continuous improvement initiatives with team members such as visual management, problem-solving, 5S towards improving production quality, cost, downtime, processes, and procedures.
  21. Facilitate robust communications within and across shifts and with other departmental and other facility resources.
