We are seeking a speech pathologist to provide essential services to children in Lithgow who have been impacted by homelessness and/or domestic and family violence.

Background

Language development is crucial for early childhood success. Family violence has a significant impact on a child's language skills, leading to brain abnormalities in memory and language areas.

Traumatic events can cause lasting effects on a child's language abilities.

Speech therapy helps children understand language, build vocabulary, use sentence structure, improve social skills, practice pronouncing different sounds, and enhance fluency of speech.

This program targets children who have been affected by homelessness and/or domestic and family violence, with priority access given to clients residing in or being supported by services in Lithgow.

Responsibilities
  • Provide community-based speech pathology services to children one day a month
  • Engage a maximum of four clients per monthly session
  • Deliver education sessions to staff and stakeholders to build capacity and raise awareness
  • Complete regular progress reporting and data collection
