Job Description

Gilson Restaurant is a renowned eatery in South Yarra, seeking an experienced and skilled Sous Chef to join our team.

This full-time position offers a competitive salary package and opportunities for career growth.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have at least 3 years' experience as a qualified chef in a similar position. You will be responsible for running the kitchen and staff when the Head Chef is on rostered days off or holidays.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Supporting the Head Chef in maintaining high standards of food preparation and delivery to customers;
  • Creatings rosters and prep lists for kitchen staff to ensure optimum resource management and speed of service;
  • Training new and existing kitchen staff on preparation, arrangement, and plating of dishes per the current menu in accordance with Gilson standards as applied by the Head Chef;
  • Assisting the Head Chef with pricing menu items;
  • Tracking, recording, and replenishing inventory as needed;
  • Adhering to Australian Occupational Health & Safety Standards;
  • Being creative and innovative within the perimeters of Italian cuisine and Australian Breakfast;

Gilson operates 7 days a week, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner services. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Chef to maintain high-quality standards and contribute to the success of the restaurant.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a qualified chef in a similar position;
  • Ability to create rosters, prep lists, and train kitchen staff effectively;
  • Strong understanding of Australian Occupational Health & Safety Standards;
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills;
