Job Title: Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician

Job Summary:

  • The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician provides recovery-focused, person-centred and culturally competent services for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people who are referred to the service with a mental illness, distress and/or risk issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide assessment, care coordination, intervention, liaison, advocacy and review as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  2. Work with consumers and their families and carers in a person-centred and holistic manner that promotes self-determination and is consistent with the principles of mental health rehabilitation, recovery framework and strengths-based approach.
  3. Develop high-level communication skills to engage and collaborate with consumers, their families and carers and other stakeholders.
  4. Maintain accurate and detailed records of consumer interactions and interventions using Electronic Medical Record Programs and Microsoft Office Programs.
  5. Contribute to the development and implementation of Mental Health & Alcohol and Other Drugs strategic directions in service provision, including those related to Aboriginal People and their communities.

Requirements:

  • Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Health Science (Mental Health) or relevant registration with AHPRA for Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers for Social Workers.
  • Demonstrate high-level computer skills and knowledge of Electronic Medical Record Programs and Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Have current unrestricted drivers' licence and ability to maintain it.
