Position Classification: Mental Health Professionals
The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician provides recovery focused, person centered and culturally competent services including assessment, care coordination, intervention, liaison, advocacy and review as a part of the multidisciplinary team for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people who are referred to the service with a mental illness, distress and/or risk issues.
This is an identified position in accordance with Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criterion.
Selection Criteria- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established links with the local Aboriginal community.
- Tertiary qualification Bachelor Health Science (Mental Health), or qualifications and current registration with AHPRA for Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers for Social Workers.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, safe and connected care to consumers and their families in a person-centred and holistic manner that promotes self-determination and in the context of mental health rehabilitation, recovery framework and a strengths based approach.
- High level communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with consumers, their families and carers and other stakeholders.
- High level computer skills including accuracy and knowledge of Electronic Medical Record Programs, Microsoft Office Programs including Skype for business.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health & Alcohol and Other Drugs strategic directions in service provision, including those related to Aboriginal People and their communities.
- Knowledge of the legislation and policies relating to Mental Health care provision, including the Mental Health Act 2007.
- Current unrestricted drivers licence and the ability to drive/travel as the role requires, including long distances and overnight stays.
- Counsellor Level 1/2 – $70,944 – $101,211 per annum
- Occupational Therapist Level 1/2 – $70,944 – $101,211 per annum
- Psychologist – $74,742 – $109,397 per annum
- Registered Nurse – $70,049 – $98,351 per annum
- Social Worker Level 1/2 – $70,944 – $101,211 per annum
- Hours Per Week: 38
- Rural Incentive: Up to $5,000 (as part of NSW Health Rural Incentive scheme)
