Senior Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

In the pursuit of delivering safe operations and exceptional performance, we are seeking a seasoned Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) professional to join our team at a leading hydropower development and operations organization across the UK.
As an HSE specialist, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the well-being of personnel and the environment. Your responsibilities will encompass ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, promoting safety awareness, and fostering a culture that prioritizes environmental responsibility.
- Compliance and Governance: Ensure that all documentation, procedures, and practices adhere to UK laws and industry best practices, particularly in relation to CDM 2015 regulations.
- Process Development and Integration: Develop, implement, and maintain effective health, safety, and environmental management systems, integrating safety considerations into design phases and operations.
- Collaboration and Client Engagement: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, communicating effectively on HSE matters, responding to inquiries, and providing expert guidance.
- Site Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular site visits across various locations in the UK to conduct thorough HSE inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
- Risk Assessment and Control: Lead risk assessments to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend controls to mitigate risk, ensuring a proactive approach to safety.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents thoroughly, identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and recommending measures to prevent recurrence.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to site teams on health, safety, and environmental procedures, ensuring they understand and adhere to safety standards and guidelines.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar HSE role within engineering or construction.
- Recognized certifications such as IOSH, NEBOSH National General Certificate, or NVQ Level 5+ highly desirable.
- Strong process development skills and ability to implement HSE processes, especially in 'Safety-in-Design'.
- Extensive knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and experience in reviewing related documentation.
- Experience with COSHH assessments and risk management essential.
