About the Role:

The Larrakia Nation is seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Healthcare Outreach Coordinator. This role is a critical part of our Healthy Engagement & Assistance in the Long Grass (HEAL) Program, which aims to improve access to primary health care services for people living in the Long Grass in Darwin and Palmerston urban areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide information to clients on disease epidemics and public health issues and support access to available health services.
  • Support clients in accessing safe shelters in the event of a cyclone.
  • Strengthen existing transport services to assist the target population in accessing health, social, and community services.
  • Encourage and support individuals to maintain social connections with their home communities.
  • Develop partnerships to achieve service coordination amongst key stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Understanding and experience of cultural protocols, together with a willingness to work respectfully in accordance with Larrakia and other Indigenous cultures.
  • Ability to converse and negotiate successful outcomes with Indigenous people.
  • Capacity to deliver a range of health, social, and community-related services to homeless people.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the issues and cultural factors affecting Indigenous people, especially the homeless, in the Northern Territory.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate, but confidential, administrative records.
