**Job Summary:**

The Chief Risk Officer is a strategic business leader responsible for assisting the Board and Senior Management in maintaining the overall risk management framework of the organization. As the second line of defense, this role focuses on enterprise risk management, monitoring changes in the risk profile, and ensuring that risk is aligned with the company's risk appetite and tolerances.

This includes ensuring that control systems are both appropriate and effective. The Chief Risk Officer reports directly to the CEO and has direct access to the Board and its Committees, as well as regular engagement in regulatory sessions.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Determining delegated responsibilities of direct reports
  • Supervising the discharge of those responsibilities
  • Escalating and advising on material issues
  • Maintaining an effective risk culture

**Functional Expertise:**

The Chief Risk Officer is responsible for delivering the responsibilities of the Risk function in its capacity as the second line of defense under the Risk Management Framework (RMF). This includes assessing and advising on risk culture, developing and implementing the compliance framework, and monitoring the organization's ability to comply with regulatory and legal requirements.

The role requires knowledge and expertise in mortgage credit risk, low-risk mortgages, structured financial transactions, and technical and quantitative knowledge of APRA regulatory capital rules and APRA regulation of banks and general insurers. Strong project management skills, communication skills in written and verbal formats, and leadership abilities are also essential for success in this role.
