This is a senior role that requires a high level of expertise in patient navigation, particularly with Aboriginal patients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and planning the care of First Nations patients, as well as providing and coordinating their care. This will involve developing and maintaining strong relationships with the Aboriginal Community, Aboriginal Organisations, and community providers.

Key responsibilities include performing and supporting nurses to perform culturally safe interventions and procedures in accordance with Indigenous best practice and policies. The candidate will also assist with clinical interpretation for other team members and provide quality patient focused care to First Nations patients and their carers.

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have a sound knowledge of and understanding of First Nations culture, society, and kinship networks. They will also require demonstrated knowledge and experience in and commitment to the provision of First Nations health services in a mainstream health, primary care, or welfare sectors.

A key aspect of this role is the ability to establish and maintain strong links across the acute health and emergency care sector as well as community and government providers. The candidate will need to have well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written health communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of state and local First Nations Health issues and initiatives.

Other key requirements include a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (or equivalent) and a willingness to attain relevant qualifications.
