Legal Team Manager or Special Counsel

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing legal team as a Legal Team Manager or Special Counsel. As a member of our Civil Practice Team, you will work closely with our specialist Head of Practice and collaborate with purpose-driven lawyers who are passionate about defending medical practitioners.

The role offers a chance for career progression and leadership where you will manage and supervise lawyers with a range of experience, providing high-quality legal services and mentoring the next generation of lawyers in this specialised area of law.

  • Conduct your own civil file load, manage the civil litigation team, and meet billing targets while delivering timely and efficient legal services.
  • Supervise lawyers with a range of PQE experience, ensuring they deliver sustainable and accurate legal services that achieve the best possible outcomes for clients and reduce cycle times and external legal costs.
  • Coordinate resourcing and workflows within the civil team, managing claims according to agreed protocols, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop the skills of the civil team, including lawyers and paralegals, to enable career development within the organisation.
  • Advise and support senior leaders on State legal trends, issues, reforms, significant cases, and other developments relevant to the practice group.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • 10+ years' PQE ideal.
  • Leadership experience or a strong interest in developing people leadership skills.
  • Defence medical negligence and insurance law experience ideal.
  • Demonstrated health law knowledge.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
