We are seeking an experienced Lawyer to join our team in a 12-month, fixed-term position. This role will provide parental leave cover and offer the opportunity for an experienced lawyer to develop their career working for Australia's leading medical defence law firm.
This is a unique chance to deliver high-quality legal advice and services in respect of a broad range of medical defence matters. You will work closely with Avant Insurance claims managers and members to provide timely and effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities:- Delivering High-Quality Legal Advice: Provide expert legal advice on medical defence matters, including litigated and professional conduct cases.
- Providing General Medico-Legal Advice: Offer general medico-legal advice to Avant members and claims managers.
- Representing Medical Practitioners: Represent medical practitioners before various courts and tribunals, including the Medical Board of Australia, VCAT, Coroners Court, Medicare, and HCC.
- Tertiary Legal Qualifications: Hold relevant tertiary legal qualifications.
- Practising Certificate: Be eligible to hold an unsupervised practising certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia.
- Post-Admission Experience: Have demonstrated post-admission experience in private practice, preferably in medical negligence or professional conduct related litigation.
- Litigation Experience: Have previous experience in conducting all phases of litigation and/or professional conduct cases.
- Employment Law: Have previous experience in employment law, which is an advantage.
- Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prioritization and Time Management: Demonstrate high-level prioritization, time management, and self-management skills.
- Mentorship: Have the ability to mentor and support junior team members.
- Computer Literacy: Possess good computer literacy and competency to work in an electronic document management environment.
