Youth Health Counsellor Job Description

Empower young people aged 12-24 to overcome adversity through evidence-based, trauma-informed care.

As a Youth Health Counsellor, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide a range of psycho-social interventions, including therapeutic support, assertive case management, group work, and brief intervention. Your expertise will enable you to deliver client-centred care, utilising a trauma-informed practice framework to address the complex needs of your clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised and group therapy sessions for young people aged 12-24, focusing on trauma-informed care and therapeutic support.
  • Develop and implement case plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring seamless service delivery and effective outcomes.
  • Engage with marginalised and at-risk young people, building trust and rapport to facilitate positive change.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and other stakeholders to enhance service provision and ensure comprehensive care.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., psychology, social work, counselling).
  • Registration with AHPRA or equivalent professional registration.
  • Proven experience working with vulnerable youth populations, with a focus on trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
