Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated professional to step into a short-term backfill role as Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with a strong practical understanding of WHS legislation and Codes who is early in their WHS management career and keen to gain valuable experience in Local Government.

While it is not expected that the successful candidate will cover the full scope of the position, they will have the chance to make a meaningful contribution with guidance and support from the current Coordinator.

About the Role:
  • Support the development and implementation of Council's Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System by reviewing and developing WHS policies, procedures, and risk management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and strengthen the safety culture by conducting audits, inspections, and incident reporting.
  • Provide advice and assistance to promote a healthy, safe, and productive workplace through WHS training programs, toolbox talks, and awareness initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing and Developing WHS Policies and Procedures: Assist in reviewing and developing WHS policies, procedures, and risk management strategies to ensure compliance with legislation and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with WHS legislation and identify areas for improvement.
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation: Investigate incidents and assist in preparing WHS performance metrics and incident summaries for senior management.
  • WHS Training and Awareness: Assist in developing and delivering WHS training programs, toolbox talks, and awareness initiatives to promote a healthy, safe, and productive workplace.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Assist in developing and implementing emergency preparedness activities, including procedures and drills, to ensure the organization is prepared for any potential risks.
  • Injury Management and Return-to-Work: Collaborate with insurers to develop and implement injury management and return-to-work strategies to minimize downtime and maximize employee productivity.
  • Senior Leadership Engagement: Engage with senior leaders, Executive management, and WHS committees to ensure effective communication and collaboration on WHS matters.
