About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter, Political Risk, Credit and Bond Specialist to join our team at XL CATLIN. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable underwriting service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite business within agreed business plans and individual authorities
  • Support business planning and forecasting processes
  • Monitor financial exposure within outlined limits
  • Monitor premium income to ensure it remains within set limits
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised and support settlement of claims
  • Ensure adequate reinsurance is acquired to cover specific risks
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients
  • Support the design and structure of risks
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and equivalent experience in the relevant class of business
  • Knowledge of trade finance and structured banking products
  • Ability to read and analyze financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss, and cash flow statements)
  • Use judgment to identify and solve day-to-day problems in straightforward situations
  • Marketing skills to plan for sales and business development
  • Negotiation and sales skills to plan, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients
  • Analytical skills to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and solve complex problems
  • Interpersonal savvy to build excellent relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues
  • Strategy and planning skills to make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plans and deliver results
  • Industry knowledge of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios
