Chief Executive Officer Role Overview

The Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council seeks a visionary leader to guide the community through transformative growth.

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will report directly to the Mayor and collaborate closely with Councillors, Traditional Owners, and stakeholders to deliver impactful outcomes in infrastructure, housing, tourism, and economic development.

  • Leadership of Initiatives Supporting Housing, Infrastructure, Tourism, and Local Employment

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive Sustainable Growth and Inclusive Development
  • Build Trust Across Council, Staff, and Community While Championing Cultural Awareness and Strategic Growth
  • Lead the Tourism Masterplan Activation, Including Glamping, Fishing, Walking Trails, Community Markets, Marina, and Events
  • Maintain a Fiscally Responsible Council

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in executive leadership within local government, Indigenous community governance, or a comparable complex organisation.

They will possess proven capability to lead culturally diverse teams and work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

High-level communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to build trust with elected members and external partners.

Advanced skills in corporate planning, budgeting, and performance management are also required.
