Senior Claims Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Claims Management Specialist to lead our team of claims specialists in managing and resolving complex claims.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in claims management, particularly in handling technically complex matters within insurance or claims management. They will be responsible for leading the team, providing guidance and advice, and developing internal capability to identify, manage and resolve claims.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of insolvent claims, including end-to-end management, assessment and settlement, delivering client-focused recovery solutions that restore confidence and build a more resilient Victoria.
- Lead, coach and develop a team to provide a positive client experience and timely resolution, using strategic approach to deliver effective communication to clients.
- Manage complex claims and participate in VCAT conferences, mediations and hearings, leading strategy discussions and working with legal service providers.
- Conduct reviews of claims data to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and manage resultant exception reporting and error rectification.
- Participate in activities contributing to VMIA's value proposition.
- 5+ years' demonstrated experience in claims management, especially in handling technically complex matters within insurance or claims management.
- People leadership skills, highly capable and experienced in coaching, developing and bringing out the best in direct reports.
- Strong technical claims knowledge with ability to identify trends, prepare internal briefs, provide reporting and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with key external agencies and third-party service providers.
- Unique perspective across Victorian Government clients creating deep connections and shared understanding of best practice in fields of expertise.
