Equitable Learning Advisor

The Equitable Learning Advisor will provide guidance and advice on reasonable adjustments and equitable assessment arrangements for students with accessibility needs, long-term illnesses, and mental health conditions. This includes assessing and clarifying the students' needs, circumstances, and options.
The incumbent will support and advise academic and teaching staff on the implementation of these adjustments and arrangements, considering how they interact with other university policies and guidelines, as well as relevant legislation and regulation.
The Advisor will also be responsible for coordinating multi-disciplinary support for students with complex circumstances, referring them to other support services when needed.
The role requires a strong understanding of inclusive practice approaches in teaching and assessment, as well as knowledge of disability-related legislation, particularly in relation to education.
The successful candidate will have significant experience working with students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions, and will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to assess the learning impacts of students with a broad range of disabilities and determine reasonable adjustments.
The Advisor will also be expected to maintain accurate records of their activities and comply with operational practices and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and advice on reasonable adjustments and equitable assessment arrangements for students with accessibility needs, long-term illnesses, and mental health conditions.
- Support and advise academic and teaching staff on the implementation of these adjustments and arrangements.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary support for students with complex circumstances.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and comply with operational practices and standards.
Requirements
- Significant experience working with students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions.
- Proven ability to assess the learning impacts of students with a broad range of disabilities and determine reasonable adjustments.
- Strong understanding of inclusive practice approaches in teaching and assessment.
- Knowledge of disability-related legislation, particularly in relation to education.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively and efficiently under pressure.
