Equitable Learning Advisor

The Equitable Learning Advisor will provide guidance and advice on reasonable adjustments and equitable assessment arrangements for students with accessibility needs, long-term illnesses, and mental health conditions. This includes assessing and clarifying the students' needs, circumstances, and options.
The incumbent will support and advise academic and teaching staff on the implementation of these adjustments and arrangements, considering how they interact with other university policies and guidelines, as well as relevant legislation and regulation.
The Advisor will also be responsible for coordinating multi-disciplinary support for students with complex circumstances, referring them to other support services when needed.
The role requires the ability to foster independence amongst tertiary students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions, and to assess the learning impacts of students with a broad range of disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions and determine reasonable adjustments, including the application of assistive technology, to support these students to succeed in their studies.
The successful candidate will have significant experience working with students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions, and will have demonstrated ability to work independently, and to contribute positively and proactively to the team's work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and advice on reasonable adjustments and equitable assessment arrangements for students with accessibility needs, long-term illnesses, and mental health conditions.
- Support and advise academic and teaching staff on the implementation of these adjustments and arrangements.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary support for students with complex circumstances.
- Assess the learning impacts of students with a broad range of disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions and determine reasonable adjustments, including the application of assistive technology.
- Foster independence amongst tertiary students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions.
Requirements
- Significant experience working with students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to foster independence amongst tertiary students with disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions.
- Proven ability to assess the learning impacts of students with a broad range of disabilities, long-term illnesses, and/or mental health conditions and determine reasonable adjustments, including the application of assistive technology.
- Knowledge and understanding of inclusive practice approaches in teaching and assessment.
- Knowledge of disability-related legislation particularly in relation to education.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
- Strong organisational skills, including a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively and efficiently under pressure.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, and the ability to lead and adapt positively to constant change.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
