Your Role

To ensure timely and accurate reporting for both AU and NZ, meeting internal and regulatory deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the External Reporting Team to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Provide technical support, researching new accounting standards and regulatory changes, including APRA and RBNZ requirements.
  • Review and approve tasks completed by the team, including journal entries.
  • Review quarterly and annual APRA and RBNZ returns with the external reporting team.
  • Prepare Enterprise Risk Reports and Board Papers, ensuring commentary is meaningful and accurate.
  • Deliver Board documents to the Company Secretary according to the agenda.
  • Review annual financial statements and half-year accounts for NZ.
  • Review and sign off on Blackline reconciliations approved by the team.
  • Oversee investment accounting and transfers of excess cash to/from the investment portfolio, resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Coordinate IFRS17 reporting with local, regional, and central teams, monitoring system feeds to Peoplesoft, Aptitude, and actuarial feeds.
  • Coordinate the external audit on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the audit team receives requested information and completes the audit efficiently.
  • Fulfill requests from external auditors as required.
  • Coordinate annual capital plans, review output, and prepare narrative for meetings with the CFO and Regional office.
  • Provide mentoring and training to team members as needed, conducting fortnightly one-on-ones, mid-year, and annual performance reviews.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing tools like Alteryx.
  • Approve payments and transfers in various banking platforms and internal systems on a roster basis.
  • Complete ad-hoc internal and external requests as necessary.
About You

You will have 5+ years of work experience in Accounting within an Insurance Environment.

Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a team is essential.

Holds a CA or CPA qualification.

Advanced Excel skills are required.

Proven oral and written communication skills are necessary.

Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Proven attention to detail.

Effective time management skills.

Experience working in General Insurance and knowledge of IFRS17 reporting are highly desirable.

The estimated salary for this role is $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
