Job Overview

The Conductor role is pivotal in ensuring top-tier customer service and upholding high standards on regional trains across Victoria.

This position plays a crucial part in the success of V/Line, safeguarding passengers' safety and satisfaction.

You will be responsible for providing face-to-face assistance and information via a PA system, guaranteeing every journey is safe, smooth, and enjoyable for our passengers onboard the train.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service & Information: Be the go-to person for passengers, offering assistance and information via a PA system and face-to-face interactions.
  • Train Preparation: Ensure trains are prepared for service, encompassing cleanliness and functionality.
  • Fare Management: Handle ticket sales, verify tickets, and provide fare advice during train services.
  • Platform Duties: Oversee train departures and assist with luggage at stations.
  • Coach Duties: Manage coaches during planned and unplanned disruptions and events.
  • Fault Reporting: Manage and report any equipment or facility issues.
  • Emergency Management: Prepare to handle service disruptions and emergencies.

To excel in this role, you must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work within rules and compliance frameworks, friendly customer service skills, and strong safety awareness.

A mature approach, previous success in operating in a safety and time-critical environment, and an unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional customer service are also essential.

About You

You will thrive in independent roles and excel under pressure.

We seek a candidate with completion of Year 10 or equivalent, valid Victorian Driver's License, 24/7 availability for shift work, cash handling experience, and the ability to complete 4-6 weeks training in Melbourne (Mon-Fri).
