Rural and Regional Community Development Officer

This position is responsible for supporting refugee communities in Wagga Wagga, undertaking community development work and coordinating group programs. The role entails participation in work with schools and youth and children's services, supporting and sourcing funding for community development projects within various refugee communities and networking and liaison with relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Support refugee communities in Wagga Wagga through community development work and group program coordination.
- Participate in work with schools and youth and children's services.
- Support and source funding for community development projects within various refugee communities.
- Network and liaise with relevant stakeholders.
- Qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Social Sciences or Groupwork or significant experience in the area.
- Demonstrated understanding of the effects of torture and trauma on individuals, families, and communities and its impact on resettlement in the Australian context particularly as this relates to the Wagga Wagga Region.
- Bilingual in a community language relevant to refugee communities living in Wagga Wagga.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in community development, advocacy, partnership building and community liaison in a multicultural context.
- Demonstrated group work skills.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills including Microsoft office.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team within a multicultural environment.
- Current NSW driver's licence.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with children and young people.
- Demonstrated training skills.
This role is a Category A role. It is mandatory for Category A workers to meet and maintain the vaccination criteria (as per the current NSW Health and STARTTS policies). Vaccination and/or assessment is required for Category A workers for the following transmissible diseases – measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella (chickenpox), diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), influenza and tuberculosis. COVID19 vaccination is strongly recommended, but not a requirement for employment.
