About the Position:

The Technical Officer role at RMIT University requires a highly skilled and experienced individual to provide technical support and services to staff, students, and partners within the College of Vocational Education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing expert technical knowledge and assistance in maintaining laboratory facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure they meet industry and educational standards.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices related to HSW and OHS in laboratory settings.
  • Ensuring accurate storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials in compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop and implement effective maintenance schedules and procedures for laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, students, and external partners, to provide technical support and solutions.
  • Working independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team environment to achieve project objectives and deadlines.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical knowledge of chemistry and laboratory operations, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining and operating laboratory equipment, as well as coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Proven ability to apply HSW and OHS legislation and regulations in laboratory settings, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software packages, web applications, and email platforms.
